Tecumseh statue
Description
Shawnee leader, Tecumseh is a famous figure in Vincennes history. He confronted William Henry Harrison (then governor of the Indiana Territory) and the outcome was a prelude to the War of 1812. Approximately 30 feet high, this hand-sculpted rendering of Tecumseh sits on the corner of First and Hart Streets. Carved out of a black oak, the statue is one of hundreds by Humanitarian Artist Peter Wolf Toth in his "Trail of the Whispering Giants."
